My art journey began in early middle school when I started attempting to recreate illustrations I found online. I soon developed a love for pencil sketches and traditional Chinese paintings, and later began to work with my art teacher to create stained glass windows for Gentry Middle School. I picked up watercolor during the middle of my sophomore year of high school and fell in love with the soft edges and gentle colors. As I entered my junior year, however, my schoolwork and extracurricular activities began to grow increasingly intense. It became more difficult to justify spending hours drawing or painting when I had several papers to write, an upcoming debate tournament, and a mountain of homework. At the same time, I was unwilling to allow my creativity and love for art wither. To balance my dwindling supply of time and desire to continue creating, I fell into the world of bullet journaling. The bullet journal, known as the "analog method for the digital age," is essentially a customized and self-created planner. I purchased my first dotted journal and immediately fell in love with the process of creating my own calendar and to-do lists with different themes for each month. As I was making the planner entirely from scratch, it was perfectly tailored to my unique needs for every single week, and I was able to fill it with inspirational quotes, habit trackers, goals, and hundreds of other spreads to keep myself on track. By allowing me to channel my creativity while still being productive, bullet journaling permitted me to continue nurturing my love for art during even my busiest weeks. I am so excited to share my work with you! A few of my recent Instagram posts are shown below, but please take a look at the rest of my work using these buttons:
